A Few Highlights
This is your moment to build a career with impact. Welcome to AIM Charlotte.
After 18 years working in stores at American Airlines, Nigel knew he wanted more. His passion for aircraft and the support he received at AIM Charlotte helped him transition into a hands-on career in aviation maintenance. Watch his story to see how AIM鈥檚 flexible training and dedicated instructors helped him make the leap.
I had been working for American Airlines for 18 years before I became an AMT. I used to work right there in the tool room, in stores. I鈥檓 always talking about aircraft 鈥 I love planes. I see planes taking off in the sky, and I鈥檓 always looking to see if it鈥檚 a Boeing or an Airbus, a 330 or a 321.
I was always fascinated by being a maintenance technician, but the time just wasn鈥檛 right before. When I moved from New York to Charlotte, I was finally able to pursue that dream. I had a good experience at AIM, and I loved all my teachers. They gave me comfort, because I was working and going to school at the same time. That was hard 鈥 but they worked with me. They supported me a lot.
I always recommend AIM to anybody in the Charlotte area. My favorite part of the job is starting off the aircraft, checking to see if everything鈥檚 good. Being in maintenance now 鈥 it鈥檚 a big change for me. When I go on a plane, I鈥檓 just looking around at stuff that I probably fixed. I鈥檓 very critical now 鈥 and it feels really good to know that I make those planes fly and keep them safe in the air.
I take that responsibility with a lot of pride. It鈥檚 a good career. You鈥檝e got to be passionate about planes and about safety too. You shouldn鈥檛 do this just for the money 鈥 you need to have a real passion for aircraft. But I always welcome anybody who鈥檚 interested in aviation maintenance.
