Five Decades of Aviation Legacies
Our history runs deep, and we take pride in the aviation legacies AIM has helped build since its founding.
- Founded in 1969: Originally known as Employment Services, Inc., Gerald Yagen established the organization in Norfolk, Virginia (a place where we still have a flagship campus).
- Expanding Our Presence: Following substantial growth throughout the 1970s, Yagen established The Electronics Institute of Technology in 1982, focusing on electronics, computer, and office administration.
- Industry Impact: Inc. Magazine recognized these efforts by naming the organization one of the 500 fastest-growing privately held companies in America.
Over five decades later, AIM continues that legacy, empowering students from around the world to kickstart their careers in aviation and beyond.

From New York to PSA Airlines: One Graduate鈥檚 AIM Journey

Transcript: From New York to PSA Airlines: One Graduate鈥檚 AIM Journey
Before AIM, I was working for a car dealership in New York City. I spent about four or five years there. Being a passenger on airplanes as a kid, I always liked flying. My cousin told me about the school opening up in Charlotte, and I toured the school鈥攖hat鈥檚 when I decided to move.
From the second I started at AIM, I met some really cool instructors and heard their stories. That鈥檚 what I wanted to be. Once I graduated, I came to Charlotte, and now I鈥檓 working on aircraft. This is where it鈥檚 at. Every day is different.
I鈥檓 an A&P mechanic with PSA. They have you work on everything. You might come in not knowing what aircraft fault you鈥檙e going to handle that night. But wherever they need me, I鈥檓 there.
I signed up that day and started my education. I worked on the red plane in the hangar (which used to be yellow), and did lots of projects here. I made lifelong friends, not just classmates but instructors who helped me through tough projects and taught me things I鈥檇 never seen before.
Knowing we help keep the fleet intact and get passengers to their destination safely and on time鈥攊t鈥檚 a big responsibility. And I鈥檓 here for it. If this is what you want to do, go for it. If you鈥檙e willing to work hard, it pays off.
When I first came to this hangar and saw the major projects we鈥檇 be working on鈥攊t was unreal. I appreciate everything AIM has done for me. They gave me the right contacts, the right resources, and helped me get my career started.
