Roger Miller spent decades in general and corporate aviation, working on everything from classic Cubs to $80 million Gulfstreams. Today, he teaches at AIM Charlotte鈥攄riven by a passion to give back and help the next generation of technicians succeed. In this video, Roger shares how teaching became his unexpected calling, and why AIM鈥檚 student-first culture is unlike any other.
My name’s Roger Miller. I’m an instructor here at AIM Charlotte. I’ve been in aviation for about 30 years鈥25 of those in general and corporate aviation, actually working on airplanes. I鈥檝e worked on everything from fabric-covered single-seat J-3 Cubs to $80 million Gulfstreams.
My father was a private pilot, so I鈥檝e been around airplanes since I was a little kid. I was always interested in the mechanical side鈥攚hat makes them go, how they fly. Having an A&P certificate in my pocket has opened a lot of doors. I never thought I鈥檇 be a teacher, but here I am鈥攁nd I enjoy it.
I really enjoy the camaraderie and enthusiasm from the students. That鈥檚 what drives a lot of us instructors to teach. We focus on the student and their success. When a student earns their A&P and starts working in the field, it makes us all proud. There鈥檚 no better feeling than that.
I never thought I鈥檇 become an instructor at an A&P school. And here I am. I want to help the younger generation find a great aviation career鈥攋ust like I did. I want to give back to this industry, and that鈥檚 exactly what I鈥檓 doing here at AIM Charlotte. I鈥檝e been given a great opportunity with this company to give back to the industry that gave so much to me.
